Echo Historical Museum is in Echo, Oregon “… saw at the river a house. The first building that looked civilized since Laramie.”  from A.E. Hines, September 1853 Oregon Trail Diary on Utilla Indian Agency

Echo Historical Museum UTILLA 1851 FORT HENRIETTA 1855 ECHO 1881 THE OLD OREGON TRAIL CROSSED THE UMATILLA RIVER TO THE INDIAN AGENCY UTILLA WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED HERE IN 1851. WHEN THE AGENCY WAS BURNED BY INDIANS IN 1855, SOLDIERS ERECTED FORT HENRIETTA IN IT'S PLACE THE COTTONWOOD FORT WAS LATER DESTROYED BY SOLDIERS WHEN THE INDIAN HOSTILITIES CEASED. THE PRESENT TOWN OF ECHO WAS LAID OUT AND ESTABLISHED IN 1881 BY JAMES KOONTZ, WHO NAMED THE TOWN AFTER HIS 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ECHO https://echo-oregon.com/history/#:~:text=J.H.,%2Dyear%20old%20daughter%2C%20Echo
